Today I was really lucky to be invited to visit White Lodge in Richmond Park. This is the school of the Royal Ballet and is normally closed to the public and I was there to photograph an art event.

There were so many interesting things to see but this bronze sculpture of the Prima Ballerina Margot Fonteyn (Dame) by Maurice Lambert really caught my eye. You can see the middle finger of the sculpture is brighter and worn, this is because ballet students passing by the sculpture on the way to their exams touch her finger for good luck. I think this is lovely and quite moving.
Beautiful graceful hand pose! I just found in my history that my Mother had written, an invitation for me to meet Margot Fonteyn when she came to NZ in 1959! I didn't go because it was a long way away. I bet I wished I had wings, though!
