4th August 2013

This weekend it was the Prudential London Surrey Classic bike race on Sunday. In the morning there was a hundred mile race for members of the public but in the afternoon it was over to the professional teams for a 140 mile race.

I was looking forward to watching the cyclists pass as the last time we did this was just over a year ago when we watched Bradley Wiggins speed past to collect his gold medal. The atmosphere was very similar today with roads closed and thousands of people lining the route.

I was really lucky to grab the best spot to photograph on a traffic island in the middle of Kingston Bridge! I'll be honest, last year was a steep learning curve on how to photograph fast moving people. This year was a bit more successful. I posted a set to Flickr below and another set of photos from earlier in the day from the Hampton Wick festival - unusually I had a choice of photos for today!

They are so close to you! Great focusing when they are really speeding!

Terrific picture Emma, so well focused, and it captures the intense determination of the cyclists.
