Today we visited the small French village of Grignan, burial place of the celebrated 17th century letter-writer Madame de Sévigné (still in publication today), and learned of her devotion to her daughter Françoise. This rose was named for Madame, and the photograph of the rose in full bloom and the bud next to it put me in mind of Madame and her daughter.
