20141106 - Prosthemadera novaeseelandiae

A quintessential New Zealand photo: a tui (Latin name Prosthemadera novaeseelandiae) on a flax bush. I took this in the Wellington CBD, along a walkway into the railway station - they are very adaptable birds. I have a lot of flax in my garden to attract draw native birds from a nearby sanctuary, but it isn't flowering yet.
The early European settlers called them parson birds due to the white tuft of feathers at the neck.
Awesome, these guys visits the garden on a regular basis up here, haven't managed to get a decent shot yet

@graemestevens we live near a bird sanctuary and have tui and kereru around us but they are v hard to photograph. I guess these inner city birds aren't as shy
