St Peter's fish by etienne

St Peter's fish

This a John Dory; in French we call it a Saint Pierre. The legend says that this fish is the one mentioned by Jesus in Matthew chapter 17 verse 26, and that the black spot on the fish side is the fingerprint of St Peter when he hold the fish to remove the silver coin from its mouth. This fish will show its front to a prey because its body is very flat in the vertical dimension, thus not very visible. At the opposite, the fish will present its side to a predator because the black spot and the large eye can create some confusion. Notice the strong muscles around the large mouth, which means that you are wasting a lot of flesh if you just buy the body fillets of this delicious fish from your fishmonger.
Beautifully captured with wonderful detail. My all time favourite fish to eat.

Wow, stunning capture. Also, thank you for the narrative. I don’t think I’ve ever eaten this fish, but I shall look out for it on menus in future.

Beautifully shot. We call it the same but in Italian. It is very expensive in our restaurants. I only had it twice.
