My mother and I spent part of this hot afternoon cleaning up the edges of her 1/4 acre wildlife pond. We saw dozens of fish nests, some bass and sunfish, two bullfrogs and thousands of baby fish -- more than I've seen in a long time. There were whirligigs on the pond and from time to time we'd hear the snap of a fish surfacing for a snack.
