Male Monarch by falcon11

Male Monarch

I was able to walk right up to this male Monarch with my borrowed 100 mm lens and take a shot. Usually they are skittish, but I noticed that the insects were slower today with the cooler temperatures. I will be sad to see this season come to an end. Another macro test shot in extras: http://365project.org/falcon11/extras/2012-09-03
Beautiful shot - so are you liking this 100mm lens? The results sure are nice - but then, your shots are always right on. The color and focus are wonderful.

@milaniet I like this (Canon) lens a lot. You can get great macro detail, but you can be farther away from your subject, less likely to scare it away. It also goes down to 2.8, so if you choose to, you can get shallow DOF.

@falcon11 Thanks for the information - think this might have to go on Santa's list this year for me. (Hopefully!)
