This trio of ducks was watching the activity at Olmstead Outlook yesterday. I think they are domestic ducks, but I do not know what kind. Any clues? Another close up in my main album: http://365project.org/falcon11/365/2013-05-08
This is breath-catching. The light was so great on these ducks. If you had designed it, it wouldn't have been any better - the colors and detail are terrific. I looked at it enlarged and it's just fantastic.
@roejan@milaniet@jessca646@sunnygreenwood Thanks for your comments. Apparently these ducks are domestic with some wild mallard thrown in, as you can see from the drake's head, so they are a crossbreed of sorts.
@falcon11 Very interesting! Do you know if they are wild now or does someone take care of them? I'd never heard of crosses between domestic and wild ducks before, but why not?
@roejan There is a house on this river, which is part of a small land trust conservation area, which is the home of the domestic ducks. In the winter the family feeds their ducks plus the 200 or so wild mallards that gather there. Over time, they must have have interbred. This is the first time in my 22 years here that I have seen this.
