The butterflies in the yard this week are much smaller and less flashy than those we saw at The Butterfly Zoo, but pretty nonetheless. I am having a hard time identifying this one - maybe a Silver-bordered Fritillary? It was pretty small-only about 2" across. It could be sharper, but the wind was blowing and it was fluttering too.
He's beautiful! Any chance he might be a gorgone checkerspot? The size would be about right and the markings seem pretty close. Nothing wants to stay still lately - your detail is good!
