I have a client with Borderline Personality Disorder. A characteristic that he has, is that he sees things, people, situations -- anything, really -- in one extreme or another...in black and white. Like most others with this diagnosis, he has trouble integrating the good and bad parts of the whole...of anything. (Also known as "splitting".)
Psychotherapy sessions with him are nothing short of exhausting, each and EVERY time. However, I've been told that I do "good clinical work with him." I suppose that's a nice testament to my skills as a clinician but...I would kinda rather not have him as a client, if I had the choice.
In reality, things aren't always black and white. In reality, neither was this picture when I took it. But as I walked to catch my train, I imagined what it would be like to see the world through his eyes...

"It is the ones who are most lost who need our help the most." This much is true.
