@carolb Actually the camera isn't new. I've had it for 4 years now. I used to take a lot of pictures with it but it's too cumbersome to lug around with me. I've attempted this 365 thing on flickr in 2009 and 2010, only using this DSLR but I lost steam because I couldn't or wouldn't remember to bring it everywhere I went. This year is going to be mostly iPhone photos because I carry my phone with me 24/7.
I actually own about 5 cameras -- six if you count my iPhone cam. The digitals are this Canon and another Canon point-and-shoot. Three are film cameras which I love - a toy camera (Holga) and an old Canon SLR from 1972 and a Kodak polaroid. I'm too impatient to wait for film to develop to know how good (or sh*tty) my pics turn out on those.
I miss using my DSLR. I've always been interested in photography but have never had a course before...learning hands on, I guess, by reading guides and experimenting. I honestly love photography and wish I could spend more time investing in the hobby.
@fauxtography365 The reason I ask is because I'm thinking of upgrading to a DSLR, but am also concerned about it being cumbersome. I'll probably take a class to reeduce the learning curve -- one class here actually has the students doing a show at the end. Cool!
@carolb I find it most cumbersome to bring around with me when I want to sneak in pictures in places where one does not normally have space, like crowded streets or subway platforms or busy public spaces where I spend the majority of the day and can't covertly shoot a pic and then properly store it on my person. Other than that, it is not bad to bring around when I know I have the space and time to take pictures at a leisurely pace. Just my opinion though, as one who does this as a hobby.
However it's definitely worth the upgrade to the DSLR. Lots of fun and learning.!
