Shit. Work has been tough lately. The 5% of my job that is so not worth it, are the times when I fear my safety. I mean that quite literally. When working with an unstable population, you never know what's gonna happen.
It's a horrible feeling when your heart is racing so fast, feeling like it's gonna bounce right outta your chest, because you really think you could get hurt...or worse. And you have to think of how to escape to safety if you have to. Having been sick the past few days doesn't help.
There's a reason I don't keep scissors in my office. I also normally wear a necklace but when I go to some practice sites or psych wards, they tell us to remove any possible thing that someone might assault or choke us with.
The past two weeks have been that 5%.
Today I don't know what I'm gonna face when I walk into my office 30 minutes from now. Right now I am just trying to focus on the pretty scenery going into Manhattan and thinking about that first sip of coffee.
I'm not one to ask for anything or beg, but if you have any good wishes to spare...send some my way. I will send 'em back tenfold. Thanks.. Heck I'll settle for some coffee you might send my way ;)
Yikes! Do you think the cold make people crazier than usual? I know it's getting on my nerves and I am relatively "sane" Sending you waves of peace and calm. hope you have a better day today.
Unfortunately we do face these risks! Stay safe, dont review unstable or dangerous patients alone, make sure others know your whereabouts, and stay close to the exit! Over Christmas my Social worker received an email saying I may be attacked one of these days! Just do your job and stay safe T...I'm expecting to continue following Ms Lippy for quite a while ;-)
