Does he sleep with electric guitars....?

Listening to this song on the way to work this morning. The title of the pic...always loved that lyric in the song. And while it's an acoustic guitar pictured here not electric, I would absolutely love to hear an acoustic version of this song.

Not a huge Pavement fan but the song and album bring me back to college days. If my college days had a soundtrack, it'd be an interesting mix of alternative/grunge music, hip hop and rap, and throw in some Zappa and Pink Floyd. And randomly, Jackson 5. Lol.

When I think of college and my 20s, I think of Greenwich Village, smoking, sex, CBGBs, Max Fish, LES, NY Press parties at the Puck building....eating, drinking....ahh. I have no regrets. :)

"Because you can never quarantine the past..."

Today, as I listen to this on my way into Manhattan, this song just cannot get loud enough on my earphones...

This pic was taken in December 2013. Husband and I went up to the Catskills for a dinner party with this fellow musician he plays with sometimes. A musician who is actually quite well known in the NYC jazz scene.

The evening was absolutely lovely. Good food. Great music. Great conversation.

The thing about being married to a musician...or any artist, that is... It's not just their job... It's a lifestyle. And if you're married to one, when they suffer or sacrifice for their art, you usually do too in some way.

A random aside...it always amuses me when I read here that people's other halves get annoyed with their picture taking. My husband actually is very supportive of my picture taking habits. Maybe because he is an artist. In fact, on this particular evening, he suggested I take my camera with me as there would be photo ops. He does that a lot.

That night, this scene caught my eye. Acoustic guitar on leather chair. Snare drum on the floor on the side. Upright bass in the back. I loved the light...the way it caressed the guitar...

I felt a little self conscious with the camera as there was a real photog part of the group. One who has had actual gallery shows in NYC and other places. Super talented. That's why I would never ever call myself a photographer. I'm nowhere near as talented or committed to the art as much as they are. It's a hobby not a lifestyle choice for me. I mean, I see what people like them and my husband do for their art... It's why it amuses me how freely people call themselves professional artists or whatnot. Or how people think they should just start a business in the arts because they got access to the internet and some decent talent. I mean, I make a pretty fucking good flourless chocolate cake but it doesn't mean I should go start a Facebook page and open up a restaurant. Maybe I sound like an asshole. Probably I do, not maybe.

Anyway that was a total tangent...Let me just STFU and turn my music up as I finish the ride into NYC :). Happy Thursday. Only one more day until Friday!

Love this photo, always enjoy and admire your free flow wonderful writing. I would say you are very talented and a photographer. Yes I understand the difference in lifestyle and commitment but that does not diminish the joy, pleasure and sometimes need to be a photographer.
If you decided to commit to that full time lifestyle of a photographer there would be no doubt much success. Love your unique style.

What a bunch of memories. And look at you all hyperlinking. I didn't know your hubby was a musician. That's pretty cool, but does he travel a lot? Love the shot. And I, too, LOVED my college days. I was pretty tame, but still had lots of fun. Wish I had been in NY, though. It would have been so amazing to experience for a time in my life.

@amandal yes my hubby is a musician. I tend to date that type lol. A friend once joked that I was a groupie. I say that it's not that I like musicians all that much...they tend to like ME lol. Though I must admit, there is something so sexy to me about a man and his guitar. My hubby travels around the area a lot in the summer. There are some seasons when his work is few and far between. Either way it can be tough for both of us but I wouldn't have it any other way!

@tosee glad you like the photo! Thanks for the comment too. You make good points. I could never commit to art full time. In high school I had actually planned to go to art school for college. I loved to draw and paint. Was pretty good at it too and perhaps could've gotten even better. But the artistic process for me is all-consuming, all-or-nothing... I don't have the stamina for it. But this should not detract from the joy and love of the art...no matter how invested in it I choose to be or not.

Wonderful shot. The story with it is great. Ever think of writing a book about your trips, adventures, evenings delved in conversations and wine? No joking here. Seriously, I'd read it. Add your photography to it, it would be great. You have a way about you. Reminiscent of Hemingway.

Such a lovely, warm capture. Strikes a chord in my heart as I play.

@losthorizon thanks for the comment - high praise! When I thought about going to art school after high school, I actually thought about writing and illustrating children's books. I guess there's still part of that trying to come out of me... Thanks again for your comments! :)

I know exactly what you mean. I always self analyze and know where I stand relative to others. I am competitive and do put my best effort forth and try to excel in what I do. But I know my place. I have a lot of people tell me how much they love my photography, but those compliments make me a bit uncomfortable. I know I can photograph better than the average person, but I have seen so much amazing photography, here and else where, by amateurs and enthusiasts, that I feel there is no way I could refer to my self as a "photographer". If I ever do decide to take it seriously, I will put forth all my best effort...
