Sundays are for selfies

RE2PECT.

Tomorrow night (7/15), Derek Jeter will be playing his last all-star game. I'll be watching...cheering for the AL.

I wanted to do a pic of just my Yankees cap for this post...but couldn't find it. And I wanted to just do a #2 jersey but...don't have a pinstripe authentic home jersey with the #2 on the back. Shit's too damn expensive.

Love or hate the Yankees, baseball fan or not...there is no denying Jeter's accomplishments, sportmanship, and clutch plays. I've been a Yankees fan for as long as I can recall and, while I can name other Yankees who I have seen play and who are just as great (Dave Righetti, Don Mattingly, Bernie Williams, Willie Randolph, etc.), as dorky as it sounds...I really do look up to Derek Jeter.

In his career, he has managed to avoid controversy in a day and age where steroid usage and what athletes do off the field make just as big a headline in the news as what they do on the field. Sure, the NY media gossips about what beautiful model or actress he's been dating or some slightly "juicy" tidbits about his love life. The New York Daily News (or was it the Post?) once reported that, apparently, he gives his lady overnight guests a parting gift of signed baseball paraphernalia. Lol. GAG. But, really, even if that's true...that stuff isn't nearly as bad or scandalous as the shit you hear A-Rod do. Or Tiger Woods. Right? He may have a great public relations team to uphold his image...OR he just tries to keep business, business and his private life, private. I think the dude just is dedicated to baseball and works hard.

Either way, what he has done on the field is inspiring and trumps all that. A consummate professional.

And he's only 2 years older than me.

I'll never forget all the awesome plays -- the flip, the catch, all the clutch hits...

Thanks for the memories, DJ.

P.S. I went and paid to go to your birthday party. If I invite you to my 40th in 2 years, your ass better come. LOLOL.
I'm less of a sports fan and totally get a Jeter homage. Nicely done!

Well, that certainly puts it out there. Great selfie capture and an amazing tribute to your hero. He must be one hell of a guy. Hope he turns up for your 40th.

@jmrittle @tonydebont thanks, guys! @tonydebont I think the thing I most admire about him is his work ethic. He also doesn't say stupid shit in front of the media -- and he's in the spotlight a lot. A lot of people talk the talk but don't walk the walk. He's pretty humble and seems respectful. I so admire people like that.

@snaphappy1 thanks for showing me that ad. I love love love the shot with Mariano, Pettitte Torre, Tino, and Posada. Noticed them the second time I watched it. Oops.

I will admit not a Yankees fan at all but I like the uniform and tradition - so glad the Rangers finally over came that black and beat them on the road to the world series - Great shot - so what are the colors black/white - navy blue and white??

I grew up rooting for the Yankees. You look stunning in that top - fav

@fauxtography365 I know, ya gotta watch it a few times to let it soak in. The core 4! His family! So good. Lol - he better come to your 40th...And pay!! Still can't believe we've witnessed his entire career. From rookie year to his last game - which I will be at his last regular season home game!!! Legend in his time!

@kylec oh you're talking about the 2010 playoffs? Didn't work out so well for the Rangers in the World Series that year ;) ha I figured someone would make a comment of that nature about the Yankees. And the colors are navy and white :)

@snaphappy1 I noticed the fam right away! Lucky you going to his last home game. Almost tempted to give you my camera so you can take pics for me...

@snaphappy1 p.s. I went to the last game that Don Mattingly ever played at Yankee stadium -- it was against the Mariners in the first ever wild card race. Yankee Stadium was ROCKING. Will be the same for Jete. So jelly you're going!

@baznman LOLOL! Actually as much a Jeter fan I am, I have questioned if he's straight or not 😳. And I do appreciate the video. My inlaws are all from Massachusetts (now live in NY) but a majority of them are die hard bosox fans. We always have fun with the rivalry. I actually like a couple of the Sox players. Probably David Ortiz the most.

Ha! Glad you appreciate the humor :) It's been a great rivalry over the years, but all in good fun. I will agree, for such a high profile player, Jeter seems like a pretty stand-up guy.
