The Door to the 19th Century Old Smithy

Door.. hm. Luckily eagle-eyed passenger Caroline spotted this old door in Ickwell, where I was able to stop and get a shot. It was the village Smithy, where the blacksmith would do his stuff even into the 20th century. Nowadays the mud outside is thanks to the football boots - the building is next to the village green and used as changing rooms for the local football club! A different kind of pong but nothing less pungent!
(I know it's not straight.. believe me, I could hardly find a single straight line!)
Hoping to catch up soon, but thank you for all your views you're marvellous - mwah!
Love the way the brickwork references the horseshoe shape - I dont think the straight edge was a builders tool when this went up!

Interesting capture and the shape reflects the blacksmith's trade.

Interesting find! How quaint to have buildings like this still standing and being used today....for whatever reason.....would love to visit your area!

Nice door- good catch Caroline. You can always straighten it in the processing but when the building is old like this one, sometimes the crooked lines add character. Good shot.

His luck looks to be running down

How interesting... The bottom of the door is straight and really serves to show how very little else is. All the angles really give the place so much character. Even the weather stripping type piece is on an angle.

The sepia tone works in this image. Love the little horseshoe on the door and the BIG brick horseshoe over the door.

Wonderful brickwork for a smithy! So glad it's still in use for the football chaps!

Such an interesting building. Lots of curves. I have never seen a blacksmith shop that was not built of wood! Cool.
