For over 20 years I have constantly worn a chain from which hangs a self whittled wooden charm.
On the extreme rare occasion I take it off, I realise how much of an obsession I have about touching wood. I'm lost without it and of course immediately have to find a stick or wooded furniture, floor anything as soon as I have THE thoughts. THE thoughts that trigger the touch are of course anything bad that can be a jinx, or something evil that flashes through my brain, or sadness for example when I see a road cross memorial....the list goes on and on. I see it as a counteraction, a cancellation, I dunno......although most of the time wood is touching my skin, I still subtlety touch it with my fingers. It's a dead give away to people that know me that I've had such a thought, and I'm kinda wondering now if I freak people out a smidgen when I touch it because of something they have said.....that I see as a jinx to them.......understandably many other people reach for my charm also...to the point I have carved about 10 others for special people in my life. Only once I think I have gone 24 hours without it having lent it to a bride to be.
And the weird thing is I don't actually believe I am superstitious.
It drives me to the brink when somebody says knock on wood/ touch wood and they hit their head......or they look around and find fake wood....and I have done this to complete strangers....grab my charm and touch them with it......actually I'm surprised I haven't been at least abused for my intrusion, because if the tables were turned and a stranger invaded my personal space, I reckon there would be a mild hissy fit taking place...oh well....again this is why I don't type much, it turns into ranting babble.
i really like the honesty of this image... and i get the idiosyncrasy completely... only i don't have a wooden charm - i aim to subtly tap my head (pretending to scratch my temple or put a lock of hair behind my ears)... quietly obsessive i guess... ;p
sweetness, I think this is typically deep, you are a gem. I wear Jade, a beach stone birthed in river, that I found this year. I read somewhere after I started wearing it that some souls need the soul energy of river and a touchstone helps because it is such a huge energy . You must be needing the grounding energy of trees and the element of wood....
I keep looking at this and thinking I have nothing intelligent to add regarding the subject of the 'wood'... but you are stunningly beautiful and this is a wonderful portrait :)
