Years ago I use to spend time with an elderly lady, in her late 80's, I would take her on Saturdays to run her errands and she would tell me stories of growing up one of 16 and with parents who were migrant workers. She lived in a mobile home, didn’t drive or own a car and lived on $520 a month from Social Security. Her name was Ida and she never went past the 3rd grade. Ida loved to quilt and she had her home filled with plants and flowers. Ida use to break off a stem from a plant, hand it to me and would say, “Take this home and just stick it in some dirt, it will grow.” So of all the plants she gave me this one has grown and grown and I have several pots of it around the house. I named it Ida. Ida passed away about 13 years ago. I miss her dearly, but I feel her with me every time I look at this plant, which only blooms only once every 10 years. This year Ida gave me three bunches of blossoms. Ida would be so pleased with my plant Ida.
Wow. This is beautiful. This must be a special year with the flowers. I do have a plant, also from a friend that passed away, a few years ago. Little daisies in summertime. I call it Jeanette after her. Her daughter lives in America and each year I will send her flowers when in bloom.
Beautiful story and beautiful photograph! I wonder what it is. Someone might know! A great gift to you and one that will allow her memory never to fade! fav
