Yikes, the bugs are taking over

I counted at least 4 kinds (or stages?) of bugs on my roses. Aphids are one, but what are the rest? I'm assuming the winter rain and a heavy pruning will solve this problem. Any suggestions?

Oh wow, some very unfortunate detail you have captured. I have a few rose bushes but my knowledge isn't great........but I think it would be good to prune hard and then spray.

What a wonderful world is opened to us with the aid of macro photography... stunning capture

Yikes is right, winter pruning will help.

Poor flower!!! Great macro!

I hate bugs but you captured them so very clear.

wow!

You could try a spray of soapy water. We have a product here called Safer's Insecticidal soap which is a relatively safe form of insecticide. In place of that I think any kind of liquid hand soap or liquid detergent could be tried, diluted in water. They don't have residual effect so have to actually make contact with the bugs to kill them.

Yes you are being taken over by Aphids, if you are going to prune them that will certainly get rid of them I would think. Good close up.

I am stunned with what you have achieved here, but horrified at the dilemma facing you

Yikes is right, LOL. Great find and a great capture.

Great capture but yikes!

Oh wow, now that what I call a gathering! Those poor roses, hopefully they can get bug free soon! Amazing details here!

Definitely time for pruning. What a great close up though.

YUCK! But you sure captured a fabulous macro. :-)

Awesome capture!

Yikes, I hate when that happens.

Great closeup - you need some lady-birds to hoover up those critters.

This is fab but so creepy that I can't really look at it.

Whoa...they love it...whatever they are. Hope you are able to get it under control. Very cool shot!

wonderful capture with all the different bugs.

As someone mentioned, macro shots really show the details!! I would cut back and then spray what is still growing in case any were still living. Just 2 T of liquid soap to a gallon of water has worked for me.

And they're all looking for something to eat!! Good luck with the eradication program.

Wow!!! Looks like the aphids have brought in all their relatives!!! Spray them quick before they multiply any more!!! Great macro shot!!!

Ladybirds to eat the bugs is my favourite advice. On consideration I think I'll take more photos, hope for heavy rain and do an intense winter prune. If this doesn't work I'll use the suggested soap and water. Luckily it's winter here so it is time for a severe cut back.
