I’ve recently taken a shine to the TV drama Jane the Virgin. It’s available on Netflix. When I went to work in Kansas City earlier this year, I watched many an episode after work in my hotel room. Now I’m not watching as often or as concertedly. Life and “worthwhile” projects somehow seem to get in the way of hedonistic sitting back to watch hilarious episodes one after the other.
If you don’t know the show, it’s about a very together young woman whose childhood promise to her abuela keeps her a virgin, but whose mishap in the doctor’s office leaves her artificially inseminated. I’m not a fan of comedy. This isn’t comedy, persay, even though it’s side splittingly funny. I am a fan of characters and I am a fan of dramas. This show is a telenovela style soap opera, completely with wry narrator, that is so over the top as to be ridiculous. Think love triangles, disasters, drug lords, long lost twins, long lost mothers, more disasters, false identities, sectret psssages, crazy family relationships... etc. Yet the core of the show is the relationship between Jane (an upright citizen who holds down jobs and goes to graduate school) , her mother and her grandmother. They have the most solid and loving of possible bonds, even when they fight.
These days, I’m only watching an episode here and there, maybe one every couple of weeks. Partly I don’t have time. But mostly, I don’t want to run out of episodes in this delightful technological holiday.
What an adorable photo to use for your delightful narrative! I avoid television so I have more time for my photography and pp, but a show like this I'm sure would captivate me. Instead of television, my daughter suggested I'd *love* pinterest, so that's the rabbit hole I go down when I take a break from my photography!
