Word(s) of the Day 10

Word of the Day: Dog

Who loves you more, a cat or a dog? (ongoing extended family argument) I say, no one loves you like a dog. “But they’re so needy!” Who cares? You’ve been out of the house for ten minutes and their joy goes into overdrive on your reappearance. You want to call that needy? Ok, but I choose to call it joy.

Once when I housesat for Maia years and years ago, one of her cats jumped up on the kitchen table and assumed a position at the far end facing away directly opposite from me. After not really paying attention, I realized that the cat was giving me some serious disdain, expressing his disapproval at Maia’s absence. The cat’s gesture evoked shame, anger and amusement all at the same time. And I still wasn’t quite sure I had interpreted correctly.

A dog? Not so complicated. When Lucy was a young thing, I returned after a week’s absence. She leapt in unbounded joy. Then she followed me into the bedroom, looked up directly into my face and peed. While I was watching. I yelled, cleaned it up and life went back to normal. No mysterious messages containing complicated sets of emotions to be deciphered. Just: you were gone, I was mad, now you’re back, yay.

I’m going to keep this one short and sweet since Lucy needs her walk. Now.
Great shot! And, I agree!

I love this point of view! I have both a cat and a dog, and my dog most certainly loves me more. lol Nala and I have an actual bond and unique relationship quirks! It's hard to explain but anyone who loves their dog surely understands. You really can't beat the love between a pup and owner.

I think you own a dog and a cat owns you. Dogs give unconditional love and return everything threefold, cats consider carefully who they will tolerate and even more so who they will love. On the farm we always had both and only two out of five cats in 40 years could have been considered loving, the dogs were much more appreciative of their human slaves.

Your challenge is a photo with a very shallow depth of field, using that to tightly define your subject.
