Metering modes - darker subject by francoise

Metering modes - darker subject

for the camera settings challenge. I thought I'd try one where the subject was darker than the background. In this one, the pattern metering seems to give a more pleasing result, but I'm not sure that isn't because the windy day was hurting ability to focus a bit.
Tricky to say. It doesn't look to me that there's a huge difference in the resulting exposures - just a stop or two?

In its entirety it looks gret

Seems like the spot metering is just a bit brighter.

The impact of spot metering depends on the composition, subject , it's size & the difference in brightness between subject & background. If the white flowers are against dark foliage - spot metering will make the non-flower areas look darker (than they were as in your other shot). If the white flower is surrounded by a light source ( eg a bright sky) the camera will make the non-flower areas even a little brighter-- so spot metering can have different effect in different circumstances. If there is only a tiny mount of white in the whole shot , spot metering will vary more dramatically compared to the matrix metering. I hope my explanation helped, not confused you !! :))
