BW trees

They look a bit spooky don't they.
Blimey today is hard going. Online marking is the worst. Still two decent quality Masters reports so the students have certainly been trying in these difficult times.
That nearest one has a definite face. It must be hard doing everything from a distance. I know Angus (final year M.Eng) is finding it very frustrating. He had a paid research post arranged for the summer cancelled, and a really interesting 4th year project with some funding lined up which had to be dramatically altered as he couldn't do the practical stuff. All he needs now is for the job he has lined up for when he graduates to be cancelled because the economy is shot........ sorry, didn't mean to moan.

@jantan yes tough times for students. We are doing our best... I am relieved at least for my PhD graduates - one finally got to take up her post in Saudi and I got a grant funded in the nick of time to provide jobs for a couple more. Not sure how the undergrads will get on but at least low carbon energy will be a growing sector. Good luck to Angus.

Blimey it’s like a Paul Nash painting. Let’s pray there’s only another term of this. Rachel has had to completely reset her PhD. Her supervisor is hoping she’ll stay to analyse the trial which is slowly proceeding again but that would add a year to make it six and she wants to be done in 5 especially with some interesting job prospects in elite sports fields coming up (concussion recovery etc a hot topic with all the dreadful dementia cases).

@judithg had to Google him... I think adjustments will have to be made regarding the assessment of phds. Students can't stick around for ever in limbo. Fortunately mine are back in the lab at a reduced capacity but it's cheered them up no end.

@fueast the trouble is that six years is pretty normal in Canada so they won’t think there’s any push. Her girlfriend wants to go to med school so Rachel would like one of them to have a job!

@judithg that sounds very settling downy!

@fueast Yes, his supervisor/tutor (?) has been great, in fact Angus has remained very sanguine about things, I just feel sorry for them all because they are missing out of part of the whole experience. I'm sure if it was me, I would be far more sulky about things.
