I was at today's Remembrance Parade and service in Walsall town centre celebrating the centenary of the end of World War One. Many young people were in the parade, dressed in uniform, and as they marched past it struck me so forcibly that in WW1 these were the ones who were fighting and dying on the battlefields of Europe. Never again!
My grandfather served in WWI in France, he was a chef in the Army. He came home with a skill that paid for his college education as chef to the dean of the college. But like you, it really saddens me to realize how young many soldiers were and are today. I hope we can learn from history and never have to repeat it.
