If you look closely you will see that the chancel (end bit) is out of line with the nave (main section). This is most upsetting for photographers trying to capture symmetry. But note that the centre aisle still points directly to the cross at the centre of the Holy Table. The traditional explanation for this is that it imitates Christ's head lolling on the cross, hence the title. There are alternative theories about more accurate alignment to the rising sun on Easter Day but I quite prefer the first explanation.
