Today I've been to West Kirby, a town on the north-west corner of the coast of the Wirral Peninsula. While there I walked to Hilbre island the largest of three islands which are cut off from the mainland by the tide for up to five hours out of every 12 hours. Hilbre Island is two miles from the mainland and can be walked to at low tide. It is possible to visit the islands over high water, in which case allow for a stay of at least five hours whilst the tide is in, or alternatively, you can walk there and back over one low water period.
Beautiful scene ... I remember being up near here a few years ago visiting Sambos Grave on Sunderland Point ... and panicked the whole week before thinking about the low/high tide and whether we would get caught whilst crossing [ I am a panicker anyway] ... we managed there and back and the tide didn't come close :-)
Gorgeous Lee - So that small community is cut off by the tide ( or have I got it wrong !!) Love the pink thrift in the foreground --it's really pretty !
