Simms.

In the foreground here once stood a large farm. My Great Great Great Grandad was born here on the 2nd March, 1809.
The 1861 census states he was still here at the age of 52 and farming 112 acres of land.
What size is an acre of land? 16 tennis courts in a 4x4 formation.
Superb - I would have been rather emotional if I was in your place. He had a hard life that's clear... but he enjoyed a better world I think.

It's a lovely place - must've been a beautiful farm! If those stones could talk, what do you suppose they'd say?!

A fine tribute to a soul who cared for and worked the land.

Looks vast and desolate in b&w. So great that you have records about your ancestors.

Wonderful shot; such a different life from the one I’m living ...

Neat history

A real home birth then but he thrived & obviously worked incredibly hard all his life. It would be a challenge earning a living as high up as that ! Farming in all weathers is hard enough now with modern machinery but in these days his hands would be his tools & probably a horse. Hard times!

Amazing to be able to trace your family back that far, and to have some sort of tactile connection with them.
