Hosta and Water Drop by gardencat

Hosta and Water Drop

Did a couple of attempts at black and white conversions today for the bw-fn-1 challenge. Not really sure how I feel about the results.
B and w images are v diff to colour I feel. More about textures, tones, subtleparts of an image. For me the water drop stands out and the lines on the leaves. For me it works well.

Lovely water droplet though the hosta looks odd-- sort of rusty?- without it's lovely green. Good to push the boundaries though!

@shepherdmanswife speaking of slugs, http://365project.org/gardencat/this-and-that/2014-05-18,

the one in the B&W above is a big hosta with rather tough leaves and less popular with the snails than the smaller hostas with more tender leaves.

@angelar this hosta does have some sort of splotches on the leaves that you can see faintly in the coloured photo but that really pop out and become more noticeable in the B&W conversion. It almost looks like I have added some sort of grunge splotches to this photo, but i haven't.
