Cormorant Head by gardencat

Cormorant Head

The cormorants pass through our area spring and fall, presumably on their way to and from their nesting places further south. For about a week there will be a number of them on the local pond every day then, as silently as they came, they will disappear again. They stay out in the water and I can never get as close to them as to the local waterfowl but, when I do get a shot, I'm always taken aback by their intense blue eyes. Last fall when I was in Florida I managed to get a shot of a nesting pair of cormorants and their offspring. http://365project.org/gardencat/365/2014-11-29 I wonder if the ones I see locally have travelled that far?
What a great shot! Love the colors!
