Not a real picture here, just posting as an addition and explanation to my other picture today.
I've way over processed this to bring out the fur detail I think the patch area may not be actually bald but rather mated down and, if you look on the left side of the picture there seems to be some little broken branch things from cedar or some similar tree...I wonder it he got a patch of sap or resin on his back when he was dragging a tree and which has matted the fur down? Just a guess don't really know and the more I look the less sure I am what is going on.
