Our task must be
to free ourselves by
widening our circle
of compassion to embrace
all living creatures
and the whole of nature
and its beauty.

I decided to post my squirrel photo before I saw another fantastical squirrel post from another 365er and lose my nerve. This is Mr. Grey (Christian Grey). He is the most fearless and my favorite of my little neighborhood of grey and brown squirrels. I have fed them a small fortune of nuts in order to try to get a decent photo. Mr. Grey has a little wound on his ear, probably from a squabble with another squirrel over the pecans, peanuts, walnuts, almonds, pistachios, corn kernels and sunflower seeds, etc...not quite fifty types of nuts. :)
There is also a bonus of a bird in the background...a Mourning Dove.
Grey squirrels receive bad press in the UK because their introduction has geatly reduced the the population of the British red squirrel, but to me they are still beautiful creatures. You have a great capture and the squirrel is looking at you. It deserves to be a favourite.
Good catch! I love having a "pet" squirrel, but my little "Besther" (there's a story behind that name!) only gets peanuts. And she has to shell them herself. Cute little fellow!
@casablanca hear hear!! It had to be said and you said it so well! @gardenfolk She's right, of course, Cathee! This is a wonderful photo, and it's *your* squirrel and *your* "Getting to Know You" picture!!! I love your story, and you've got all summer to continue to form the bond. Stay the course...he's a beautiful; grey! We only have orange ones here.
@casablanca Thank you for reminding me! Some photos are just so superior on the same subject/object that I compare and tell myself "never mind." My iPhone/camera can only do so much when it comes to certain abilities. But for the most part, I am happy with what I can accomplish. :)
