The yellow ball of fire
changed to hues of orange
and then almost tangerine.
It merged with the sky
like juice-mix dissolving
in a glass of water.
The clouds were cotton candy
as though they blushed at
the warm glow of the sun.

This is another colorful sunset in the sierras. The sky looks ablaze but it is not on fire. However, we do have 5 wildfires in Northern California.
The Mendocino Complex Fire has grown to become the largest wildfire (by acreage) in California history. It started on July 27, has burned 283,000 acres and is only 30% contained. 75 homes and 68 structures have been destroyed to date.
The Carr Fire has burned 164,000 acres, destroyed more than 1,000 homes and has killed 7 people of which 2 were firefighters. It started on July 23.
The Ferguson Fire has burned 100,000 acres near Yosemite, is 40% contained and started on July 13.
Over 14,000 firefighters and the temperature is still 100 degrees.
We have poor air quality, low visibility due to smoky skies and ash falling on cars. These fires are exhausting for the firefighters, the people who lost their homes and all the displaced wildlife if they even survived...so sad to think about.
I does look like the whole place is on fire. Beautiful capture of this fascinating sunset. So sorry for what is going on in California. Hope the fire is controlled very soon.
Iโm so sorry about all those fires, they are the lead story on the national news every night! Your photo scared me, I thought you were too close to the fires. Iโm thankful it is a beautiful California sunset.
