Don't judge each day
by the harvest you
reap but by the
seeds that you plant.
...Robert Louis Stevenson
A Johnny Jump Up, which was the name I learned for them, is a smaller relative of the pansy. It is a small, sweet and delicate flower. However, I just learned it has several other nicknames I had never heard before such as: heartsease, heart's ease, heart's delight, tickle-my-fancy, Jack-jump-up-and-kiss-me, come-and-cuddle-me, three faces in a hood, love-in-idleness, call-me-to-you, godfathers & godmothers, flower o'luce, banwort and who knows what else. How can such a cute little flower have so many names?
I have these tiny pansies in my garden - they have seeded themselves from somewhere? Lots of different colours too. I haven’t heard of any of those names before. I need to get my gardening book out! Lol! Fav For such a colourful image!
What a wonderful name for these little beauties - I simply call them violas - but Johnny jump up really describes their habit of self setters - they scatter their seeds and a loads of seedlings jump up or appear !
