I don’t wait for
the calendar to
figure out when
I should live life.

These two birds didn’t quite know what to think of me. They had separated from the other 8-10 turkeys that were off grazing for food. They approached slowly and the closer they got, their side freathers released down to the ground and scraped the road. It is like a shield to protect their legs, appear to look solid and make noise. It was fascinating to watch those handsome turkeys on patrol.
A group of domesticated turkeys is technically called a “rafter” but wild turkeys are considered a “flock”. I am going to check on the flock tomorrow to see if they are still there and safely living wild and free. Maybe living free is why they are so beautiful and healthy looking?!? Nice on Black.
@Weezilou They were a gorgeous flock, Louise! Maybe they are so healthy and vibrant because they are free to live as they please? I really was fascinated watching them and surprised to find them. There is another area where there are wild peacocks and I swear one wanted to come home with me! I did not see them display their plumage and tails though...still fun to see out and about. Peacocks are very loud too! :)
They were putting on a show for you- and reminding you that this flock belongs to them! Our club was photographing on a farm once and there was one male turkey there. It was uncanny but we think he knew who the guys were and who the ladies were. He chased most of the men away! Great shot.
