There are building codes...and then there are California building codes. We had to have our balcony rebuilt, after 22 years, due to dry rot. We hired a deck contractor to replace it as close to what we had before, except instead of wood, we used Trex decking and white aluminum rails. I had the top rail flat because Katniss liked to jump on it, although now it is 6 inches higher than before. I also wanted the stairs built the same but now California code calls for less space under the handrails. It was my favorite place to take a photo of Katniss and her favorite place to watch over the yard. Now the stairs are not open for her anymore and neither of us are happy about it. So this photo shows one of her last times. Nice on Black.
