There is no moment of delight
in any pilgrimage
like the beginning of it.

The Cincinnati Union Terminal opened in March 1933. Built when rail travel was already in decline, Union Terminal stopped operating as a passenger railroad station in 1972. Only during WWII was the terminal used to capacity with as many as 34,000 people traveling through the building daily in 1944. As part of preservation efforts , 14 mosaics depicting Cincinnati Industry of the 1930's by Wind Reiss were saved from the concourse and moved to the Greater Cincinnati Airport. The restored Union Terminal became a Museum Center in November 1990 with the opening of the renovated Cincinnati Museum of Natural History and new Cincinnati History Museum. Cincinnati Union Terminal has been described as one of the most outstanding examples of Art Deco train stations in the nation and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1972.
After seeing the American sign Museum and having lunch at Ruth's Parkside Cafe, we went to see this beautiful building. I loved seeing the Cincinnati Union Terminal, both inside and out...a fabulous place. Unfortunately the gorgeous fountain in front had not been turned on for the season as I kept picturing Esther Williams coming up through the fountain. You can see a great photo of it in the first link below.
@alophoto I was sorry I saw this before they turned the water in the fountain back on for the season. But, I loved it all anyway! I had the best time in Cincinnati and parts of Kentucky.
@alophoto I have been posting several pics from Cincinnati and Kentucky from my trip in April (in June and July and now in August). I couldn't post just one photo of the day. We did so many fun things! :)
