For once you
have tasted flight
you will walk the earth
with your eyes skywards
for there you have been
and there you will
long to return.

In 1946, the Chief of Naval Operations, Admiral Chester Nimitz, had a vision to create a flight exhibition team to raise the public's interest in naval aviation and boost naval morale. Throughout the years, the Blue Angels have performed for crowds across the globe in 8 different aircraft but only two of them have been piston-engineered, propeller driven aircraft, the Hellcat and Bearcat. These rare and now priceless aircraft took to the skies on Saturday to a moving tribute at the Capital Air Show in Sacramento. The 6 F/A-18 Hornets also performed in their soon to be Legacy Hornets as they will transition to F/A-18 Super Hornets in 2020.
The Blue Angels fly as close together as 18 inches during formations and speeds up to 700 miles per hour. They were in the air for a 30 minute performance. It was extremely loud, powerful and exhilarating. This was my first time to an air show and the Blue Angels were incredible to witness. Nice on Black.
Great capture!I was at an airshow on Sunday in Huntington Beach where we saw the Red Arrows and the Thunderbirds. I just posted one of my shots from that show today.
