It Is a Journey

Life is not a destination
to be reached but
it is a journey
to be enjoyed.

This photo was taken at the Catalina Chimes Tower overlooking Avalon Harbor. The chimes have been tolling on the quarter hour between 8am and 8pm since 1925.

William Wrigley Jr. and wife Ada purchased the Westminster chimes from the Deagan Company of Chicago in 1925 and a Spanish style structure was built to house the chimes. The Catalina Chimes Tower was presented as a gift to the town of Avalon by Mrs. Wrigley in hopes to add more character to the island.

The flowers on the island were in full bloom, especially the Bougainvillea and the Hibiscus, in various colors.

Mt. Ada, the Wrigley Mansion, is the highest home on the hill.

Fabulous composition. A clever way to separate each section with the wrought iron.

I love the composition. Every pic is better than the next. I can see why you love it there so much. It seems the weather is always pretty in Southern California. Is that true?

Beautifully composed! It was Sunday evening, I believe, that the chimes played music for a while. Too late it dawned on me, "Why am I not making a video?!" Slow starters get the last four beats... When I return, I'll be better prepared!

@Weezilou Diana, who lives on the island, knows the woman who plays the chimes! I love hearing them...they add so much charm! Every one knows every one when you live there. :)

@gardenfolk Sounds like Lunenburg! How interesting to know about someone "playing the chimes"! It's that way, too, in the 'burg. I've watched it being done and it's no small task! Wonderful bit of information!
