The Supreme Court,
of course, has the responsibility
of ensuring that our government
never oversteps its proper bounds
or violates the rights of individuals.
But the Court must also recognize
the limits on itself and respect the
choices made by the American people.

The Supreme Court was built in 1932-1935 when the Court finally was able to occupy its own building. Before that it shared space in the Capitol Building.
The classical Corinthian architecture style was selected because it harmonized with nearby congressional buildings. The building was designed on a scale in keeping with the importance and dignity of the Court and the Judiciary as a coequal, independent branch of the United States Government and as a symbol of "the national ideal justice in the highest sphere of activity."
The Supreme Court plays a very important role in our constitutional system of government. First as the highest court in the land, it is the court of last resort for those looking for justice. It also protects civil rights and liberties by striking down laws that violate the Constitution.
