After we walked around the US Capitol, across the street was the Supreme Court and the Thomas Jefferson Building at the Library of Congress. It has a beautiful fountain across the front called Court of Neptune.
The Thomas Jefferson Building is the oldest of the four US Library of Congress buildings. It was built between 1890 and 1897. It is the research library that officially serves the US Congress and is the de facto national library of the United States. It also houses and oversees the United States Copyright Office. The library is open to the public for research, although only high ranking government officials and library employees may check out (remove from the premises) books and materials.
It is one of the largest libraries in the world. Its collections are universal, not limited by subject, format, or national boundary, and includes research materials from all parts of the world and in more than 450 languages. Best on Black.
