The "hissing of summer lawns" refers to the sprinklers that water the lawns. The grass is greener where you water it.

However, we are always in a drought and only have certain days we can water...and way too much lawn. We have about 5,000 square feet of grass. We are also on a water meter and billed by the amount of water we use. I think we need to reduce our lawn areas, since we do not get enough rain.

We need to sprinkle often tp keep the grass and plants going, although this is our raining season, the sun and heat burns off the water quickly.

Looks lovely! Our lawn is like straw & we are heading for a hose pipe ban. It will recover soon enough, when we eventually get rain!

@carole_sandford Our lawn was crunchy and brown...until I turned on the sprinkler more often! The front yard is now crunchy! And it will be over 100 degrees over the weekend and next week.
