Sadly today I'm unable to post a picture of the lorikeet I rescued yesterday as he did not make it through the night. Thankyou all so much for your wonderful support and caring words about the bird and rescue, but unfortunately not the happy ending we had hoped for.
However, here is rock dove pigeon spotted on the breakwater just as he fluffed himself up to start the day. Thanks again for all your sincere kindness :)
Hey! So nice to meet you!! I do love birds and Hummingbirds are my most favorite bird in the world, but I do love them all!! I'm sooooooo sorry about the Lorikeet!! It must have had some internal damage. At leasat you tried and that's a lot more than a lot of people would have done.
This pigeon just cracks me up!!! Did he shake out those little dark spots behind him or is that something else?? LOL That is some fluff and perfect timing on your part!! Looks a lot like me in the mornings!!
You should join the Alphabet Challenge with me and Linda!!! Will so gladly follow you also!! FAV!
I don't know if I *am* or if I'm *not* surprised at how sad it makes me feel that that lovely little bird didn't make it through the night. I'm so sorry it ended that way, but thank you for letting us know. Your little fluff ball today does put the smile back on my face! Isn't this the epitome of a "down jacket"?! I've seen little children (with these proportions) bundled up against the cold and looking like that!
This is a great capture of the fluffy pigeon who looks like a young one? Really good composition. I'm sorry your rescue efforts did not bear fruit for the lorikeet.
@cashew Thanks for the offer to join you and Linda, but I still have a list of local sights that I'm trying to work through to photograph :) I will enjoy following both of you on your journey through the alphabet!
Your care for the feathered creatures is very touching, Denise. I'm sorry the lorikeet didn't make it, but that is the way of nature. However, pigeons always seem to make it through. They're one tough bird. Very cute capture of this one.
Ohhhhh...this really made me smile. Have never seen this before. So cute. Very sorry to hear about your rescue bird. Thank you for your efforts and at least he was made more comfortable then laying out in the elements by himself.
Like a puff of grey cloud. Fav, just gorgeous. I am always rescuing birds and I have to say they are very difficult to save, I found a pheasant a while ago lying in a muddy ditch. She seemed to recover, eating and was warm and dry and then just died. I think the shock affects their recovery. Sad but you did your best, well done you

Sorry to hear about the lorikeet :( I had dramas this morning with a tawny frogmouth and fear that it's fate be similar. :(
Lovely capture all fluffed up for the day!
