Closed, open, closed, open..... by gilbertwood

Closed, open, closed, open.....

Went for a drive to the Hopkin's River Mouth to see what was happening today. I have been going there over the past two months watching the saga of the river mouth. It has been closed for awhile and then machine opened to allow the eels out. However mother nature keeps interfering and closing it again. It has been manually opened 4 times now (according to a local fisherman) and today (bottom right photo) it is closed again! Maybe we need a good storm to open it again :)
# Thanks all for great comments on my whale sighting. You will be pleased to know she is still there today. And hopefully I'm well enough to go to Melbourne tomorrow for the ballet :)
Every day is diferent. Great collage!

Lovely beach photos. So does that mean that my beachwalk would be a different length each time, if I lived near this beach?

What an interesting story! Does this mean you are seeing Swan Lake?
June 26th, 2015
@gigiflower No Cinderella - and it's supposed to be very different to the original but spectacular :)
@quietpurplehaze You'd be quite safe here Hazel as the main beach is to the right and is about 5 kms to the breakwater. Then on the left side of the river you head off to Logan's Beach where the whales are - and that goes on for many many kms!

interesting collage. We have a similar opening near where we go to the beach, but its usually years between openings!
June 26th, 2015
Interesting how nature determines the coastline. Enjoy your ballet!
June 26th, 2015
It's a really interesting collage and explanation.
Enjoy Cinderella.

That river really can't make its mind up. I'm sure there will be a nice winter storm to fix it soon.
Also I went to the movies tonight and saw a preview for a movie called Oddball. It really looked like it was shot in Warrnambool. Have you heard of it? It has Sean Jacobson in it.

@karlow75 Have I heard of it Kane! i was an extra in it!!! Well that's if I made the cut :) Back in March last year I posted several shots from the making of the movie - they were here for about 2 weeks. We are all being invited to a special screening of it soon! Then I'll know :)

BEAUTIFUL COLLAGE
June 26th, 2015
@gilbertwood that's fantastic. I hope you made the cut. When I saw the island in the preview I nearly stood up in the theatre and yelled, "that's Warrnambool".
June 26th, 2015
Super shots.
June 26th, 2015
@karlow75 I'm so pleased that Warrnambool has left such a wonderful happy image for you :) And the story is about the Mareemas on the island who protect the penguins - and it's a true story about the crazy guy who breeds the dogs!

do the eels have to get out to spawn?
June 26th, 2015
@chard Yes that right Richard :)
June 26th, 2015
A great collage that tells the story. Someone could fill a book about what I don't know about the sea.
June 26th, 2015
Wonderful collage Denise.I don,t know why they bother for the eels as they will cross land when they have too.
June 26th, 2015
Super collage, great textures

Lovely collage!

A great collage of all those beautiful shots .
June 26th, 2015
@peterlgrave It's not purely for the eels Peter. The river banks up and comes close to flooding our beautiful old boathouse so that is also an indicator when it may need help in opening :)
June 26th, 2015
An interesting collage :)
