Brolga find by gilbertwood

Brolga find

We went to Ballarat yesterday to see our brother and were delighted with some of the things we found on the way! These are 2 big brolgas which are quite rare down this way. It would be over 10 years since we spotted the last pair! They are over a metre (3 feet) tall and very timid - hence them walking away from me and my zoom lens :) I will now be keeping an eye on this spot as we visit Allen regularly. For those who remember him, he is deteriorating with his cancer, but was in great spirits and didn't appear to be any worse since our visit last month.
Great find, how nice to see something unusual. I like their red caps. Glad your brother is still in great spirits I expect your visits it help him.

I'm so sorry about your brother Denise. On shot, lovely capture. I love learning that you call them "Brogla's". They are identical to what we call Sandhill Cranes and I have featured them quite a bit in my project. So cool to learn these things.

@susanalena Hi Susan, Just noticed your comment. The Brolga is native to Oz and is a different bird to the Sandhill Crane

@chard @susanalena @terryliv Our brolgas are in the crane family. I had a look at your sandhill crane Susan and they are very similar, even with the red on their head! And Poppo, i will forgive you for your Ballarat statement in the other photo! I at least have the beach down here, even though it's cold :) Ballarat is just freezing!
