Te Maunga by graemestevens

Te Maunga

There's no rain or wind today, so our little Mountain dominates the skyline from almost everywhere in Taranaki, which makes me so happy that I could easily hit a passing stranger 'round the back of the head with a cast iron frying pan (mostly to hear the satisfying "thwoingggg" sound. That they apparently make).
This was taken about 20 minutes from home, at a place called Tataraimaka. The most interesting thing about Tataraimaka is trying to say Tataraimaka.
Wish I had this view 20 minutes away from me Graeme - this is peaceful and awe inspiring in equal measures. Nice one, young man.

@vignouse Thank you very much - we also have an uninterrupted view of the other side of this hill from our house. It makes me physically sick almost every day, especially as we're only 5 minutes from the sea in the other direction :(
June 13th, 2014
this is absolutely gorgeous!! great shot!
June 13th, 2014
It's the pressed metal non stick variety that makes the thwoingggg sound, the cast iron frying pan makes more of a solid thunkkkk ( I speak from years of married life experience ). But I digress, this is a most beautiful view, just love the little cloud hovering over the snow capped mountain :-)

So beautiful! I wanna go there. I'm so tire of seeing building. Some nature and mountain will be great. The landscape is awesome and you picture is perfect. It's a f****ing great shot. Instant FAV!

Gorgeous,breathtaking scenery.Amazing image!
June 13th, 2014
@hermann I'm not using one of our good pans, so I'll have to take your word for it and settle for a thunkkkk rather than a thwoingggg :)) Thanks very much as well, appreciated (for the comments and the frying pan advice)
@firefly8642 Thanks very much, and for the follow :)
June 13th, 2014

Lovely snow capped peak. I was there waaaay back in 1995. A memorable trip. Nice north island countryside!
June 13th, 2014
@gigiflower Only when we're doing the groceries. I like to hide behind the incontinence pants and leap out at unsuspecting pensioners.
June 13th, 2014
@tomtom Thanks very much - nice to see it again after a week or so of rough weather, still not too cold either

@graemestevens I like to grab the microphone at the service counter and yell "Price check on the large condoms with the knobbly bits.....oh in blue glitter please"

June 13th, 2014
@graemestevens Perhaps more like a sort thwack-squelching sound? Love the shot, insanely envious of your proximity to such a visual delight.
June 13th, 2014
@golftragic Thanks very much indeed - from what I hear we may be making a trip up the hill this weekend, always weather dependant. If you can't see the mountain it's raining, if you can see it. it's going to rain...
June 13th, 2014
@graemestevens Yeah, I know how that one works. Good shooting.

June 13th, 2014
You are completely spoilt in you surroundings and we are all SO jealous. Love the dark foreground that makes your eye search but does not distract from the unpronounceable mountain top.
June 13th, 2014
NZ is so ugly, With all it's lush greenery, volcanoes, beaches etc. it is such a drag to live here......
Cracking shot.

@annied It certainly does exist, and thank you so much
June 15th, 2014
This is simply breath-taking. One day I will go to conquered it without being smacked by the cast iron frying pan. My word for today is definitely Tataraimaka.
