No Safe Landing by graemestevens

No Safe Landing

It's not on fire, it's not bleeding, it's not dead...what's going on? I was on a break this morning between meetings and had spent some time watching the seagulls trying to cope with storm tossed seas and 90km winds. They seemed to be having great difficulty finding somewhere to land and as great as the temptation was to knock them out of the sky with rocks for the perfect photo, there were just too many other people about so I had to settle for this. I quite liked the shape of his/her wings in this shot...which is a good thing because after 125 shots this is the only halfway presentable one.
I love it!

August 14th, 2014
The crop is perfect and that sussurating surf ( @annied ) tells its own story. This image has a very evocative feel about it - nice one GS.

@vignouse
sussurating such an alliterative word and also onomatopoeic - brilliant!
August 14th, 2014
@graemestevens Great roiling surf, looks like it's boiling. Love the shot, well worth the time and effort.
August 14th, 2014
Does that bird really have black wings?!! Because I really, really like them, but at our shores the birds have white wings (maybe they are bleached like the rest of the Californians)......they look razor sharp, and like they could cut straight into the surrf...
August 14th, 2014
Fabulous! The 125 shots were worth it!!!
August 14th, 2014

August 14th, 2014
Great use of an unusual ratio works really well. Great shot.
August 14th, 2014
The shaving foam sea looks impressive. I'm sure the bird is about to dive deep into the bubbles.....

August 14th, 2014
@graemestevens I know the feeling. Your description on the Perfect Gentleman picture resonates.... Love your work!
August 14th, 2014
I love the pov and the birds fabulous wings. The water detail is awesome.those waves look rough!
August 14th, 2014
OK.....I am trying not to roll over laughing because I CAN picture you throwing rocks (or maybe knives????) at this poor bird for the perfect photo!! I can relate to the 125 shots. So many times I do that and the ones I think are going to be the best are horrible and am surprised by what turns out to be the one I like. Love this shot! The wingspan and waves are great!!
August 14th, 2014
Fabulous and love the panoramic format!
August 14th, 2014

I love this crop.
@gigiflower How do you know you don't like them? Have you ever tasted one? As @harbie mentioned, I'd like to see a knife or two in this.
August 14th, 2014
@bill_fe Thanks very much. I'm more than happy to fry up oneor two of these for @gigiflower, or even throw a few on the BBQ. As for the knifes, next time I'm out watching seagulls I'll make sure I manage to impale at least one of them!
August 14th, 2014
