My sister @ marilyn posted a picture of our grandmother's cooking fork for the April A challenge http://365project.org/marilyn/365/2012-04-17 and this is the cast iron skillet she used it in along with the misfit lid. I am still using it today to cook many of our meals. I have been using it for over 30years myself and I am not sure when she started using it.
People love their skillets after they get them all "broken in" and primed. Is it true you don't wash it? I don't have one...was not much of a cook. But now I wish I had kept Mom's. I do have a muffin pan with those corn cob shapes for cornbread, but have only made cornbread a few times....need to do that again soon!
@espyetta I used to not wash it until someone commented on how bad it looked. After That I learned you wash them but try not to scour them or they will louse the "seasoning" . They are a good source of iron so even loosing the seasoning is not such a bad thing it just means the food sticks more whjen you cook with it!
Don't believe you about the spelling/typing!!!!! Love the pan, the shot, the story and the comments!!!! So nice to have something like this and still be able to use it.
@ruthmouch Seriously?! You cut me to the quick ,Ruth with the comment about my spelling skills!! ;~} Thanks so much for the very NICE comments about my photo! ♥
Nice photo of this cast iron skillet and the lid you use, Katy. I grew up with cast iron skillets on the stove all the time. We had to turn on the burners so they would dry and forgot about a couple of them over the years and got in trouble as they got ruined. My Mom still has a few of them left. Heavy but they sure cook up food great and last forever.
Nice shot! I have one of my grandmothers cast iron square skillets...I had a round one also until one day I had a HISSYFIT and threw it on the floor...broke right in half...Im very ashamed to say that I do not even remember what I what all pissy about. Miss that pan!
