First Falcon by grammyn

First Falcon

As I was walking into church this morning I heard, and then saw several crows chasing a white bird. The people in front of me said they thought it was a falcon. As it landed on the bricks I ran back for my camera and got several shots before it flew off. I follow several people who get fabulous bird shots and this can't compare but I am happy with it because except for the straighten it is sooc with no tripod.
Looks a lot like my hawk. Funny it was crows that lead me to mine also.
Love it.

Katy this awesomely cool!!!
You and I probably have a couple of members in common that we follow, who post incredible bird shots, so I know what you mean about comparing. But this really is a fabulous shot and I'm so jealous that you have such a magnificent bird in your neighborhood.

@pasadenarose Thanks so much This is the first time in my life I have seen this kind of bird like this and I think now it is probably a hawk. If you are younger than I am (and almost EVERYBODY is!) you have a few years to wait yet before you get to see one! ;~]

@deburahiru Thanks, Deb!

@vskolnik Are you kidding me?! YOU are one of the ones I was referring to! After a little research I am thinking it is a hawk. You are so kind with your praise, Vee!

@hankinsphoto thanks, Steve. I was thrilled to get the opportunity!

Vee
@grammyn Yes, it does look like a hawk...what state are you in again? I'll check on whatbird.com for exact name. I'm really curious:)
December 5th, 2012
@vskolnik Alabama and it is probably a red tailed hawk! I know very little and wasn't even sure how to check! you sound as if you know what you are doing!
December 5th, 2012
Vee
@grammyn I still can't figure it out...probably is red-tail...it confusing to me because it it looks different than the red tails around here.
December 5th, 2012
@vskolnik I wonder if it is a juvenile!
December 5th, 2012
@vskolnik i just googled it and looked at the images and feel certain it is.
December 5th, 2012
Vee

@marilyn Ach! thank you so much! I would think you might see a lot of similar birds with all the field mice you have around there.
December 5th, 2012
@ellimae Thanks, Ellen. I have thought about carrying it in but I feel it might make people uncomfortable so I usually leave it in the car. I am just glad I had it with me.Thanks so much for the FAV. It means a lot coming from someone with you talent!

What a glorious capture Katy.....beautiful tones and detail, and composition excellent after the sprint! What a wonderful bird to see, even if only fleetingly. I find the fashion for huge handbags is perfect for hiding my camera in!!!!
December 5th, 2012
@ruthmouch Thanks so much for such positive kind words,Ruth> I think a huge handbag is a great idea but then I would struggle with getting it out! Definitely something to consider! ;~}
December 5th, 2012
Its not a sparrow nor a crow, Past that I dont know.
December 5th, 2012
@prn LOL! you are right AND a poet!!
December 5th, 2012
Wow, what a gorgeous shot, Katy. Talking about being at the right place at the right time and having your camera with you. Love the colors and detail. How do you straighten a photo, I need to fix one?
December 5th, 2012
@darsphotos Thanks so much for you kind words.

Straightening a photo depends on which program you are using. I use Microsoft Office Picture manager often and it is under the edit option as rotate. After I straighten I need to crop it. some programs have it under basic edits as straighten and it does the crop automatically. I think Picasa is one of those. You just have to hunt around a little for it .
December 5th, 2012
Ok, you win on age thing. ;-)
December 5th, 2012
@darsphotos
Darlene, I use Picasa and it has a straighten option.
December 5th, 2012
