Twice a week in good weather or bad these gentlemen stop by my house and take away anything I set on the curb in a plastic bag. Sometimes even if it isn't in a bag they will take it! I shudder to think what life would be without them and know they never get the appreciation they deserve!
We ended up switching our garbage collector recently and now there are no people picking up the cans. Instead the truck has this claw like arm that comes out, grabs the can and lifts it up over the truck so that the lid opens and the garbage falls in!
you have nice garbage collectors then. ours here are all divas! it used to be that if they see something in the bins that should be in the recycling or vice versa, the bastards won't empty the bins and will just leave them there on the sidewalk, then the city sends a notice, etc. now the bastards had been replaced by the automated trucks like ann described above.
What a great shot of something most of us take for granted! Next Monday I'm out on my balcony waiting for my guys (never thought of them as 'heroes' tho) to come round.
How nice to have this kind of pick up. It is so strict here. Recycle in a bin, refuse in a bin, both picked up every other week and a trash bin. Once a year is clean up and a lot can be put out then. You are lucky to have them. Really good photo too.

We also have a trash pick up once a week that will take absolutely ANYTHING that is on the curb. If someone hasn't already taken it before the trash guys get there they will pick up the kitchen sink, or the boards off your walls, or the carpet off your floors! All you have to do is get it to the curb. We have gutted three rooms in our house over the years and they picked every bit of it up! I bring them cookies and candy at various times throughout the year because I am so grateful for all that they do. These guys get it too! It never hurts to be kind to the people who take care of you!
