This tree was left by the side of the road for our trash collectors to pick up. I have no idea how it was cut down or hauled to this dump site. That little "woodland fairy" sitting on top of one of the four enormous sections is over six feet tall to help give you a size perspective.
It must be a special rubbish collector - wouldn't fit in the normal rubbish truck! Actually it would probably be someone who makes firewood or such from all this valuable wood!
A grand tree felled and how quickly it is done nowadays with machinery. Always makes me think of the Ents in Lord of The Rings. Great capture with elf on perch.
The tree must've been huge! Makes me a little sad, though it may have been dead or dying and a danger to someone's house. . . ? Good idea to ask your :woodland fairy" to climb up there to give it a sense of scale. Nice in B&W, showing the textures of the tree.
What a huge tree and great shot of it, Katy. I have seen them cut down at our park but not this big. Those that are this big are redwood trees that partially remain down in place with part of them on the ground and the rest removed.

Second the "woodland fairy" or elf as some of you referred to him knew I was calling him that and he had a good chuckle over it. He had the idea to climb on the tree to give an idea of scale. Like you, it saddened me to see it cut down but what you can't really see is at the base of the tree it was over 50% hollow so it was dying from the inside out and had to be cut down to prevent it from falling on someone's house. We have a bulky trash collection that will pick up almost anything left on the side of the road to include bathtubs sofas or even cut trees but I think this one may have been hauled by someone hired for that specific purpose because of its size. I would like to think part of it was salvaged in some way but will never know for sure. A great thought Daryl.
