I was fortunate to visit Italy several years ago and, along with all the fabulous food and gelatto, I discovered limoncello. I have always been a fan of anything lemon so this was no surprise to me. I recently discovered a recipe for making my own which is very simple and today it is finished. I am looking forward to recalling some wonderful memories of my trip and warming myself from the inside out with it this winter.
It is very similar to cherry bounce ..but lemony dad♥

2 lbs lemons or 1 kg
750 ml grain alcohjol may use vodka
6 C water or 1.4 kg
2 1/2 C sugar or .59 kg
Peel just the zest of the lemons avoiding the pith and put in glass jar
Add alcohol and let sit at room temperature for 3 or 4 days stirring periodically Peels will petrify in alcohol
Strain off liquid into large bowl
Mix sugar and water and heat on stove until all sugar is dissolved. Let cool
Add sugar mixture to flavored alcohol
Place in bottles or jars and let set overnight. Store in freezer. It will not freeze
My recipe says it can be served topped with heavy cream but l will be drinking mine straight!
